10 years ago, October 14, 2005, the port of Sillamäe was officially opened for the navigation.
The opening ceremony was attended by President Arnold Rüütel, President of the Riigikogu, Ene Ergma, Prime Minister Andrus Ansip, Minister of economy and communication Edgar Savisaar and other Ministers. There in the ceremony participated also the representatives of the diplomatic corps, the large part of the business elite of Estonia and many businessmen from Russia and other countries.
Already ten days after the opening of the port to the berth arrived the bulker Anna-Maria Sibum, who took on board a first party of metal constructions. From that point through the port of Sillamäe began freight service.
From this time through the port of Sillamäe passed 40 million various types of cargo and more than 30 million tons of them processed on the own railway station of the port.
